Martin Riener

Martin Riener was born in Linz in 1987. He received his first lessons on the euphonium at the age of eight with Hans Peter Gaiswinkler at the Landesmusikschule Altenberg near Linz. After three years he changed to the trombone. From 2001 Martin Riener was a pupil at the Music High School in Linz and initially attended the preparatory course at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien with Dietmar Küblböck (Wiener Philharmoniker) and Otmar Gaiswinkler (Wiener Symphoniker).

He is the winner of many competitions such as Musica Juventutis or Gradus ad Parnassum (2011). Furthermore, he has attended numerous master classes with teachers such as Horst Küblböck, Wolfgang Pfistermüller, Stefan Schulz, Joseph Alessi and Leonhard Paul.

He regularly plays in orchestras such as the Wiener Kammerorchester, the Wiener Philharmoniker, or the Wiener Staatsoper. He often plays with the ensemble die reihe and he is a regular member the Vienna Brass Connection. From 2007 to 2016 he was trombonist at the Volksoper Wien. In 2016 he changed to the Wiener Symphoniker. Since 2019 he is principal trombonist of the Wiener Symphoniker.
