Christian Poitinger

Christian Poitinger was born in 1987 in Grieskirchen in Upper Austria. He began learning the trombone at the age of twelve. From 2001 to 2006 he studied at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität in Linz with Prof. Friedrich Loimayr and attended the Music High School in Linz. In 2007 he continued his studies with Johann Ströcker (Wiener Philharmoniker) at the Kunstuniversität Graz/Oberschützen.

In September 2006, he was offered contract as a substitute trombonist at the Wiener Volksoper. In May 2007 he won the audition for that vacant position and since September 2007 he has been bass trombonist at the Wiener Volksoper.

Christian Poitinger is the winner of the Anton Bruckner Competition of the Wiener Symphoniker in the category "bass trombone" and received a special prize in 2008 for his particularly outstanding performance at the International Brass Competition in Passau. In 2009 he won the first prize at the Edward Kleinhammer International Competition for bass trombone of the International Trombone Association.

Since 2018 Christian Poitinger is university lecturer for bass trombone at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien.

He regularly plays with renowned orchestras such as the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Wiener Staatsoper, the Wiener Philharmonikern , the Bruckner Orchester Linz, the Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, the Wiener Symphoniker and the Tonkünstlerorchester Niederösterreich. Christian Poitinger is a member of the Vienna Brass Connection.
